Quasicrystal Quantum Simulator

We are interested in the many-body quantum physics of quasicrystals, which are crystal-like structures without translation symmetry, but with both long-range order and rotation symmetries that are forbidden in crystals.

Multimode Cavity Quantum Simulator

We plan to design a multimode cavity quantum electrodynamics (cQED) system that will utilize strong light-matter coupling between photons and ultracold atoms to allow for the engineering of complex and tunable long-range interactions for an analog quantum simulator.

Rydberg Atoms at Yale

A Rydberg atom is a highly excited atom with a valence electron far from the atomic nucleus. The energy levels, level spacings and large size of Rydberg atoms gives them useful properties. The Rydberg Atoms at Yale (RAY) phase of HAYSTAC will exploit these atoms’ sensitivities to search for axion dark matter and dark photons.
